Project Snoopy
I like Snoopy. So does the city of St Paul, MN, where Charles Schulz was born. From June to October, 2000, they sponsored Peanuts on Parade, in which a series of 5 foot painted statues of Snoopy were installed in and around St Paul.
I decided to try and get my picture taken with all of them. It turned out to be a monumental effort. The "original" Peanuts on Parade event had 75 Snoopies which were installed starting in June, with the last of them installed in late July. Then, starting in August, due to high popularity, a "second litter" of 26 Snoopies was commissioned, bringing the total up to 101 (a deliberate choice to coincide with "101 Dalmations"). Finally, there were a number of extra Snoopies that were decorated for the Auction, but weren't on public display.
The Snoopies were on display starting in early June (with a big "Paint Off") until late September, when the organizers started rounding up the Snoopies. To culimate the "Summer of Snoopy," on 1 October 2000 most of the statues were auctioned off at the Mall of America, raising the phenomenal sum of $823,000 (winning bids ranged from $11,000 to $35,000), and the Snoopies were left on display at Camp Snoopy at the Mall of America through 2 October 2000, the 50th Anniversary of the Peanuts cartoon. Proceeds went to scholarship funds for cartoonists, and to sponsor a permanent bronze Peanuts tribute in St Paul.
As of today, 3 October 2000, the "Summer of Snoopy" is basically over. Many of the statues are now being delivered to their new owners. Others were kept by their original sponsors. Hopefully, I'll sometime get together a list of the ones that are still there.

For now, these are just pictures, but I plan to put more information on the site, some links, and some of the other pictures I have (like some details of the artwork, etc). I'll also put name, location(s), auction price (the cheapest sold for $11,000), and other information as I get it.

These Snoopies weren't part of the original "Peanuts on Parade", but were created for the "Peanuts on Parade" fundraising auction on October 1st, 2000. I don't have official names for most of these.
This Snoopy was made by the same people as the rest of the Snoopies, but is apparently privately owned, and not part of "Peanuts on Parade".
